How to Book a Chandigarh to Manali Taxi with BookFast
The moment May arrives and Chandigarh crosses 40 degrees, half the city starts planning a Manali trip. We know because our phones don’t stop ringing.
And honestly? We get it. Ten hours of driving sounds like a lot, but wake up to the Beas flowing past your window and you’ll forget all about it. The tricky part is getting there comfortably. So let’s talk about that.
First, How Far Is It Really?
Around 300 km. Google might tell you 7 hours. Don’t believe it. With a lunch stop, a couple of tea breaks and the usual slow traffic near Mandi and Kullu, plan for 8 to 10 hours. During peak season, sometimes more. Leave by 6 or 7 in the morning and you’ll reach before it gets dark, which is exactly what you want on hill roads.
Bus or Taxi? Here’s Our Honest Take
Volvo buses are cheaper. No point pretending otherwise. But they mostly run at night, so you either sleep badly or don’t sleep at all. They drop you at the bus stand, not your hotel. And if someone in your group feels sick on the turns after Mandi, well, the bus isn’t stopping for you. A taxi fixes most of that:
Pickup from your own gate, whether that’s in Sector 21 or Zirakpur.
Stop whenever you want them, for food, photos or a breather.
Drop at your hotel’s door, bags and all.
Much easier with kids or parents who can’t sit for ten hours straight.
Split between four people, the difference in cost usually isn’t as big as you’d think.
The Road You’ll Take
Your driver from Bookfast will most likely go via Kiratpur, Bilaspur, Mandi and Kullu. The first couple of hours are easy, mostly flat Punjab roads. Things get interesting after Kiratpur, when the hills start and you catch the first glimpse of Gobind Sagar near Bilaspur. Sundernagar and Mandi are where most people stop for lunch.
After Mandi, the road hugs the Beas river all the way up. This is the best part of the drive, so keep the windows down if the weather allows. Kullu comes next, and from there its apple orchards and small cafes until you roll into Manali.
Stops We’d Recommend
You’re on the road for a whole day anyway. Might as well enjoy it.
Pandoh Dam: Five minutes is enough. Good photos, though.
Hanogi Mata Temple: Right by the river. Most drivers stop here without being asked.
Kullu: Pick up a shawl if you like, or try rafting if you’re not in a hurry.
Naggar Castle: A small detour, but the valley view from up there is lovely.
Tell the driver at the start which ones you want. It’s easier for them to plan than to decide at the last turn.
Booking With BookFast
Nothing complicated here.
Put in your pickup address. Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, anywhere in the tricity works.
Add your hotel in Manali as the drop.
Choose the date and the time you want to leave.
Select the car.
Check the fare (tolls are already included) and confirm.
You’ll get the driver’s name, number and car details on WhatsApp and SMS before pickup. That’s it.
Should You Go One Way?
Depends on your plans, really. Staying in Manali for a week? Heading on to Kasol or Spiti afterwards? Then paying for a car to sit around waiting makes no sense. Book a one way cab Chandigarh to Manali, pay only for the drive up, and figure out the return when you know your dates.
On the other hand, if it’s a quick three day trip and you want the car for Solang and Old Manali, a round trip might actually work out cheaper. Just ask us. We’ll tell you straight which one suits you better.
Picking a Car
Ten hours in the wrong car is not fun. Trust us on this.
Sedan: Fine for two or three people who pack light.
Ertiga: Good for families of four to six.
Innova Crysta: Our pick for this route. Better seats, more legroom, more boot space.
Tempo Traveller: For big groups, college friends or office trips.
When to Go
March to June: Peak time. Great weather, but book a few days early.
July and August: Monsoon. Landslides happen, so keep a day spare.
September to November: Our personal favourite. Clear skies, fewer crowds.
December to February: Snow, cold and occasional closures. Magical if you’re ready for it.
Small Things That Help
Keep motion sickness tablets in your bag. The turns after Mandi catch a lot of people off guard.
Pack a jacket even in June. Evenings in Manali get cold quickly.
Share your hotel’s exact location with the driver beforehand. Some places in Old Manali are tricky to find.
Carry a bit of cash. The network drops in a few places on the way.
