It's about 250 km on NH-44 and takes 4 to 5 hours. We pick up from anywhere in Delhi NCR, including IGI Airport.
Most people on this route are going home for the weekend, heading to PGI for an appointment, or landing in Delhi and needing to get to Chandigarh the same day. A private cab picks you up at your door and drops you at the exact sector, hotel or hospital gate. You stop when you want to eat. Nobody asks you to share the back seat.
BookFast Cab runs Delhi to Chandigarh every day in sedans, Ertigas, Innova Crystas and Tempo Travellers. Your fare is fixed when you book, so there's no meter and no surprise at the drop point.

Trip Detail | Information |

Travel time | 4 to 5 hours, up to 6 on Friday evenings and festival weekends |
Highway | NH-44 (GT Karnal Road) |
Route | Delhi, Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Zirakpur, Chandigarh |

Getting out of Delhi is usually the slowest part. Leave before 7 am, and you'll often reach Chandigarh by late morning. Leave at 6 pm on a Friday, and the Alipur to Kundli stretch alone can take an hour.
Past Sonipat the highway opens up and moves fast. The last bit through Zirakpur can slow down in the evening. In December and January, fog often adds an hour, and our drivers won't rush it.
Food and Rest Stops on the Way
Murthal (around 50 km from Delhi): the dhaba strip known for parathas. Most people stop here.
Karnal (around 125 km): highway restaurants and fuel stations, roughly halfway.
Ambala (around 200 km): a good last break before Chandigarh.
A meal stop is part of the trip and costs nothing extra. If you want a longer break, just tell us when you book.

Which Cab Should You Book?
Sedan: Good for up to 4 people with three medium bags. It's the cheapest way to do this trip, and most solo travellers and couples pick it.
Ertiga: Six seats and room for 4 bags. A family of five with an elderly parent will be more comfortable here than squeezed into a sedan.
Innova Crysta: More legroom, a smoother ride, and space for 5 bags. Worth it for older passengers, business guests, or anyone who wants to arrive without a stiff back.
Tempo Traveller: For weddings, office groups, and big families of 9 to 26 people. In wedding season, book at least 15 days ahead.
One-Way or Round Trip?
Book one way if you're staying in Chandigarh or moving on to Shimla or Manali. You pay only for the drive there, not for the cab's empty return.
Book a round trip if you're coming back to Delhi within a day or a few days. The same cab and driver stay with you for meetings, hospital visits, or sightseeing in the Tricity. The driver’s night stay costs ₹300 per night.
Going Further From Chandigarh?
Many people heading to Chandigarh are actually on their way to the hills. You can keep the same cab and skip the change.
Delhi to Chandigarh plus Shimla or Manali in one booking starts from ₹7,500. Call us for a quote.
Places to Visit in Chandigarh
Chandigarh is easy to explore because most of its well-known spots sit close to each other. A few hours are enough to see the highlights, and a full day lets you take things slowly.
Place | Where | Time to spend | Why go |
|---|
Rock Garden | Sector 1 | 1.5 to 2 hours | Nek Chand’s garden of sculptures made from broken tiles, bottles, and scrap |
Sukhna Lake | Sector 1 | About 1 hour | Lakeside walk and boating with the Shivalik hills in the background |
Capitol Complex | Sector 1 | About 1 hour | Le Corbusier’s buildings and the Open Hand Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site |
Rose Garden | Sector 16 | 30 to 45 minutes | One of Asia’s largest rose gardens, at its best in February and March |
Government Museum and Art Gallery | Sector 10 | 1 to 1.5 hours | Known for its Gandhara sculptures and miniature paintings |
Sector 17 Plaza | Sector 17 | About 1 hour | The city’s main shopping street, with cafes and a lively evening crowd |
If you have half a day, stay around Sector 1. Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, and the Capitol Complex are only a few minutes apart, and all three fit comfortably into about four hours. Visit Sukhna Lake early in the morning or around sunset, when it’s cooler and the light over the water is at its best.
If you have a full day, start with the Sector 1 spots, then head to the Government Museum and the Rose Garden after lunch. Finish at Sector 17 for an evening of shopping and dinner.
A few things help. Carry a photo ID if you plan to see the Capitol Complex, since visitors go in through a guided tour. Sukhna Lake and Rock Garden get crowded on weekends and holidays, so a weekday visit is much quieter.
