Spirituality Meets Grandeur

Perched at an altitude of 2,455 meters (8,000 feet), Jakhu Hill is the highest point in Shimla. It is home to the ancient Jakhu Temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The temple is famous for its 108-foot tall Hanuman statue, which is visible from almost everywhere in Shimla.

The Legend of Jakhu

According to mythology, Lord Hanuman rested here while searching for the Sanjeevani herb during the Ramayana. The footprint near the temple is believed to be his. The atmosphere here is serene, surrounded by towering deodar trees and a playful (yet naughty) army of monkeys.

The Journey to the Top

You can reach the temple via a steep 2km trek from the Ridge, which is great for fitness enthusiasts. However, for families and elderly travelers, the Jakhu Ropeway is a fantastic option, offering a bird’s-eye view of the valley. Alternatively, many tourists prefer booking a 4x4 cab or a local taxi to take them through the winding forest roads directly to the temple gate.

Cab Booking Advice

The road to Jakhu is very steep and narrow. It is best to hire an experienced local driver who is used to these mountain slopes. Ensure your cab booking includes "waiting time" so the driver stays while you perform your darshan and enjoy the views of the Shivalik ranges.
